Bowman Park Ladies Auxiliary

All ladies of the area churches are invited to join the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bowman Park Campmeeting, which meets twice a year (once in the spring and again in the fall). Dues are $2.00 per year. The Auxiliary operates the Thrift Shop during the summer and all are invited to bring useful items to be sold in the shop. No clothing or shoes, please! The ladies are also selling dish cloths and kitchen knives.

History of the Bowman Park Ladies Auxiliary

Probably the first mention of an organization for the ladies of the Bowman Park Campmeeting appears in the minutes of the Directors Meeting of July 31st, 1900, when "a resolution was passed that Presiding Elder Rev. 0. L. Saylor will call a meeting of the Sisters and form a 'Ladies Aid Society of Bowman Park Association'."

That this organization has been successful is amply evidenced through the succeeding years, as this diligent group has contributed freely of their time and finances to help Bowman Park Campmeeting achieve its standing among the Campmeetings of the Conference. Their contribution of working hours alone save the Camp many hundreds of dollars and their gifts of supplies of all kinds, office equipment, building materials, paint and major expenditures such as hot water heaters, additional lavatory installations have made the Ladies Auxiliary indispensable to the ongoing progress of Bowman Park Campmeeting.

In 1970 the Ladies Auxiliary undertook additional duties in the operation of the Kitchen and Dining Room during the camps and other events through the summer months. They financed the purchase of updated kitchen equipment including a dishwasher and have completely modernized the kitchen itself. For this year's camping season, work is being done in the dining room.

Mrs. Luke E. Rau has served as President of this esteemed group of ladies since 1961. We owe these faithful women of the Auxiliary much praise and gratitude for their loyalty over the years to the work and purpose of Bowman Park Campmeeting.
