Bowman Park Alumni Association

All former campers of Bowman Park Youth Camp are invited to join the Bowman Park Alumni Association, which meets several times a year. See a member or an officer for further information.

History of the Bowman Park Alumni Association

The idea of an Alumni Association was born in the minds of a few former Youth campers during the 1972 campmeeting after talking with the first Youth Director of Bowman Park Youth Camp, Rev. A. M. Herman. This was the result

of much needed improvements to Fellowship Hall and other areas of the Youth Camp. It has been the desire of this group since its inception to cooperate with the Bowman Park Board of Administration, the Alumni having representation on this Board, and also to work with the Grounds Committee in meeting needs of the grove area.

Full responsibility for the Fellowship Hall and operation of the Refreshment Stand ("God's Goodies") were given to the Alumni Association in 1973 by the Board of Administration. Since that year, the interior and the exterior trim of Fellowship Hall has been painted, new draperies hung in the individual rooms, an indoor-outdoor carpet installed in the lounge, mirrors placed on both sides of the dormitory, several bed frames replaced, and

most recently new bunks added, an additional shower added on the girl's side of Fellowship Hall, and moving of a wall to allow use of the small room on the boy's side.

On the ground area in front of Fellowship Hall, new grass has been seeded and a flagpole erected. Paneling of the inside of the Refreshment Stand has also been accomplished, as well as other improvements in God's Goodies (so named by Charles 0. Rehrig in a contest held several years ago).

Financing of these improvements is undertaken through donations and operation of the Refreshment Stand. This mighty group of young adults continually busy, many of them serving as counselors during the summer camps.
